Job Description

Senior BMET

A Senior BMET is usually assigned full time, on-site to a specific account (facility).  A Senior BMET is responsible for all aspects of on-site account management and supervision of all service personnel assigned to him/her.  Because of the close daily relationship and interaction with the customer facility’s staff, Senior BMETs must have excellent organizational and customer service skills.  Senior BMETs have multiple responsibilities and may spend up to 50% of their time on administrative tasks.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Must exhibit leadership ability and personnel skills.  An individual must be able to deal with people in a supervisory capacity, establish work priorities and schedules, training requirements, etc., in a manner sensitive to both the customer and co-workers.  While working with the responsible manager, the Senior BMET is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of those employees directly under him/her, including conducting performance reviews and any disciplinary actions required.
  2. Must take responsibility for clerical needs, including completeness and accuracy of service reports, filing, tracking of SM and repair services, monthly status reports, notification to departments of overdue and incomplete SMs and equipment inventory reports.
  3. Initiates service requests to outside vendors as required and tracks service completion including documentation.  
  4. Where applicable, assists in tracking of SM service and additions/ deletions to contract equipment inventory.  Communicates with appropriate support staff pro-actively to assure customer satisfaction with the Renovo program.  Reviews budgetary reports and contract inventories for accuracy.
  5. Must work independently to schedule all SMs while balancing repair calls as required as well as completion of all related paperwork.
  6. Must respond to all urgent requests for service verbally within 15 minutes.  Must prioritize balance of repairs and schedule accordingly.
  7. Performs all assigned non-invasive repairs.  Performs as many as possible of any required invasive repairs on-site.  Arranges for completion of the balance of the invasive repairs.  Orders and tracks all necessary parts for repairs using the approved purchasing method for the account.  Demonstrates good judgement on which repairs are attempted on-site.
  8. Maintains timely and accurate knowledge of equipment status through proper use of department schedules, inventories and SM schedules.
  9. Responsible for inventory control.  Must accurately track and report all additions, deletions, and changes including accuracy of department inventories and SM schedules.
  10. Must exhibit extraordinary customer relations skills.  A close daily relationship with the customer requires a high level of customer satisfaction and perception of value per dollar cost.  Company image is perceived primarily through contact with the customer and on-site personnel.
  11. Must work closely with Renovo Account Managers and Regional Directors to keep them informed of account status.  This must include SM status, repair status, level and type of special interests and customer concerns and problems.
  12. Provides, or assists in providing, user in-service training and new equipment evaluation as requested. 
  13. Tracks safety and quality related issues as required by the facility including hazard notifications, equipment failures related to patient safety, manufacturer recalls and mandatory equipment notifications and upgrades.  Attends Environment of Care/ Safety Committee meetings as requested by the facility.
  14. Learns new maintenance skills quickly, usually without demonstrations.
  15. Operates and maintains test equipment to high standards.  Tracks test equipment, parts inventory and other on-site Renovo assets as assigned.  Maintains accurate quantity and locations for all company assets under his/her control.
  16. Must be available for after hours service calls and participate in the on-call rotation if asked to do so.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. B.S. Degree in Biomedical or Electronics Technology or equivalent preferred.
  3. Minimum of 5 years experience in the service and maintenance of medical equipment.
  4. Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience preferred.
  5. Exceptional organizational skills required.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.


Physical Demands:

  1. Prolonged standing and walking.
  2. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching and lifting.
  3. Occasional squatting, climbing stairs, crouching and kneeling.
  4. Frequently lifts and carries up to 50 pounds.


Working Conditions:

  1. Occasional exposure to moving equipment.
  2. Exposures:  Biohazards, dust, electronic and bacterial cleaners.
  3. Protective equipment required:  Gloves, gowns, mask, and goggles.


Equipment Used:

  4. Service test equipment and tools.



  1. Submit timely and accurate service reports, time sheets, expense reports, film badges and other paperwork as assigned.
  2. Understand and observe company policies and accounting procedures.
  3. Be a professional liaison between the company and the customer to solve all of their problems.

  3. Personal appearance – Service personnel must observe company dress code at all times, and must have good personal hygiene.
  4. Driver’s license – Must maintain an active driver’s license in the state of operation.
