Job Description

Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing complex tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning with minimal supervision.  Provide work directions and technical guidance to less experienced staff.  Responsible for contacting clients to resolve all tax related matters. Implement tax preparation for company and clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare complex federal, state and local tax returns.
  • Conduct, manage, negotiate and settle tax penalty notices.
  • Reviews tax work of subordinates.
  • Reconciles tax and other accounts
  • Reviews payroll setup data.
  • Train, mentors and provides work direction to staff.
  • Reviews tax information supplied by client, may meet with or call client with questions.
  • Recognizes, anticipates and resolves tax issues, makes recommendations.

  • High level technical expertise in the full range of payroll tax terms, laws and calculations.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage and develop staff
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities is required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Demonstrated mentoring, coaching and organizational administrative skills required.
  • Ability to perform tax planning and tax due diligence
  • Ability to identify outside consulting need and present financial and business case metrics.
  • Well-developed presentation skills
  • Excellent customer relationship skills


Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent experience in payroll tax positions.
  • 7+ years of tax experience with at least 3 years of mid-level compliance work (complex 941 returns, multi-state tax, and local tax).
  • Working knowledge of payroll tax code, tax regulations
  • Strong organization, oral and written communication skills.
    Ability to work with all personnel within the organization and facilitate communication effectively.
  • Quickbooks knowledge highly preferred.
  • Must be a team player/flexible and able to work in a fast paced/changing environment.
  • Experience with MasterTax software a plus.
