Job Description

Purpose/Description:

The House Supervisor advances the mission of Coquille Valley Hospital by assisting administration and department managers in the management of clinical operations and handling situations that arise that require administrative decision making as needed after normal business hours. This supervisor is nurse who is a clinical expert serving in a leadership role to assure that all members of the teams under their direction provide care that is consistent with accepted standards of practice, the Oregon Nurse Practice Act and Coquille Valley Hospital policies and procedures. This employee serves as a role model and resource for staff providing education as needed or directed, promoting an environment of safety and assists staff in clinical decision making and the resolution of immediate patient, family and provider concerns.  He/she provides administrative support and is responsible for the allocation and management of departmental resources that promote optimal efficiency and patient outcomes on their shift. Actively participates in the implementation and promotion of the hospital and departmental goals and strategic plan including the completion of projects and quality initiatives as required.

Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Oregon.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited Nursing Program or in progress; Associate Degree with an advanced degree in a related healthcare field is accepted (i.e. Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Health etc.).
  • Current Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP).
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of appointment. The TNCC requirement can be completed within one year of appointment.

 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of three (3) years full-time post-licensure clinical nursing experience in an acute setting
  • Prior experience at the unit based charge nurse level is preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of hospital operations and emergency procedures.
  • Board certification in a hospital based clinical nursing specialty or in nursing administration preferred.
  • Experience working with a nursing union desired.

 

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of age specific patient care requirements and expert knowledge of the Nursing process.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships that promote collaboration, trust, positive conflict resolution and staff development.
  • Computer proficiency for the EMR and Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel and Power Point.

 

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS

A.    ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS

  • Serves as a clinical and administrative resource to hospital staff, departments and physicians throughout the system on their shift.

 

B.    CLINICAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains personal clinical competence and utilizes established patient care standards when consulting with staff on clinical issues.

 

C.    TEAM BUILDING AND COMMUNICATION

  • Fosters a team approach hospital-wide, focusing on optimal patient outcomes, service and satisfaction as the overall goal.

 

D.    STAFF DEVELOPMENT

  • Provides direction, support and real time feedback for staff and employees who are in the orientation and their preceptor; Monitors the orientation and preceptor program plans for staff practicing on his/her assigned shift.

 

E.    RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

  • Manages time, resources and staff efficiently to maximize productivity and avoid unnecessary cost.

 

F.    EDUCATION AND SELF DEVELOPMENT

  • Serves as a role model for lifelong learning, participating and promoting educational programs and assuring staff meet their mandatory educational requirements.
